article imageMichigan man caught tossing drug-packed football into jail

Jackson - This Michigan man wouldn't have much luck playing actual sports. He threw a football, stuffed with cellphones and drugs, into a state prison yard, which unfortunately fell short of its goal.
The guy has probably watched too many episodes of the Netflix series Orange is the New Black. That famous character in the show, Red, would be proud of his attempt, but he is now facing felony charges, according to a corrections department spokesman.
It happened last Sunday morning. According to prisons spokesman, Russ Marlan, the man jumped out of a vehicle and threw the football, but it handed short of its target and ended up between two security fences at the Jackson state prison, about 75 miles west of Detroit.
"From where he was throwing, it would not have been that difficult of a throw to throw it in ... but you don't know how heavy it was," Marlan said.
As soon as the incident occurred, a prison officer apprehended the man and turned him over to the Michigan State Police.
When officials sliced the ball open, they found it had been stuffed to the limit with heroin, marijuana, tobacco and three cellphones along with chargers, and then stitched back together again. Detroit Free Press identified the man as one Christen Deon-Sterling Moore.
22-year-old Moore was arraigned Tuesday in Jackson District Court on contraband charges and ordered jailed on a $50,000 bond. Apparently each charge carries a five-year felony.
Marlan added that it was not clear who the intended receiver of the ball actually was, but it sounds like Moore will soon be wishing someone would send him some contraband.
