Girl versus Manatee
Of course it’s not nice to laugh at someone’s fear but she came of it laughing and during the ordeal she even tries to pet the thing. But like most of us she didn’t know what the heck it was. She didn’t know that manatees are herbivorous and eat various algae and plant life, not other creatures. She got to thinking, “Does it have teeth? It is it shark-like? Could it bite me?!”
All of these things went through Caroline Winch’s mind as she screamed (with some swear words)…and yet she kept filming herself with her left arm and hand — she had her phone on a selfie stick — while her right arm and hand tried to dog-paddle her way out of there. Fast. She told Inside Edition that one of her big thoughts was for the welfare of her Mom.
Sweet.
“It was really big, it was a lot bigger than I thought. It was like very large and I was thinking it had teeth,” Winch told Inside Edition. “I was starting to think it’s a shark’s cousin, it could hurt me, I could die out here, my mom would not see me again, I was very nervous.”
Persistence: career as actor?
She was vacationing — it was filmed in early April — on the Florida coast with lots friends who were already back on the boat when she encountered the manatee. They, naturally, got worried about the screaming and did some of their own…but then they became a tad amused. Of course, some of her friends also filmed the event.
It’s gone viral, six million views and counting.
Given her persistence at filming the encounter despite all that terror we’re thinking she has a career as an actor, which is not to suggest that the fear is fake, it certainly appears genuine. But horror movies need good screamers and all movies need actors who love to be in front of the camera.
She’s proven she likes that, no?
