Man who swallowed live goldfish is banned from owning goldfish

Luke Berry, 26 from Farringdon, Oxon, posted a video of himself swallowing a goldfish, and washing it down with Strongbow. The video was discovered by RSPCA investigators, who then reported the video to the police. Eventually, Berry was charged and then he admitted to animal cruelty.

According to Mirror, at a previous hearing, Berry was told he could have been sentenced to jail, but he was let off the hook two days ago. Magistrates heard about Berry performing the act, which was for a drunken dare, and his actions were described as disgusting. Asides from being banned from owning or keeping fish for five years, he also received 120 hours of community service.

Berry’s attorney said that Berry was ashamed of what he did and he was very drunk at the time. His attorney continued to say that he accepts responsibility for what had happened.

The video was posted to Facebook back in August 2014. Berry did it as part of a drunken dare or game called Neknominate, which typically involves people necking an alcoholic drink and then posting the video on social media, and then they nominate others to do the same thing.
