Dabo - After months of fighting with French authorities over the right to marry, Eric Holder and his former stepmother got married on Saturday.
According to Telegraph, Elisabeth Lorentz was previously married to Holder's father, but they divorced. Holder and Lorentz couldn't get married before because of a French law banning such unions from taking place.
The wedding was held in the village of Dabo, which is located near Metz, according to BBC. Holder's father reportedly attended the wedding, as well as dozens of others.
The couple's plea made its way through the court system, and eventually it made it right up to President Francois Hollande's office. They waited for a response and when they finally got one, it was a letter and it reconfirmed that such marriages were not allowed.
A local court eventually granted them the right to get married in June, but the prosecutor's office opposed the decision. However, they chose not to appeal the court's decision.
The day of the wedding, Lorentz said "At last, it's the big day!"
Lorentz continued and said that she hopes that their story will be useful for others who are in the same situation. She continued to say that her ex-husband has always been supportive of the couple.
