Man decapitates mother because she ‘nagged’ him

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said Gomez was arrested and charged with first degree murder after he admitted to the murder of his mother, Maria Suarez-Cassagne.

Apparently his mother had asked him to put some boxes in the attic, which triggered the attack with an axe. “Because he was mad at her he planned her murder for two days,” Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said.

A relative had called the police at Oldsmar city and reported that Gomez “had cut her head off.” He then dumped the corpse near the house garbage bins and set of on a cycle before police caught him. “He just left the body sitting there, next to the trash can, went into the garage, tried to clean up the scene a little bit.” Gualtieri told NBC News. “When he saw that wouldn’t happen is when he left,” he added.

“I don’t think it gets much worse than that,” Gualtieri said. “This whole circumstance is probably one of the worst, certainly, that we’ve ever seen, with a decapitation and the head stuck in a garbage can. It’s terrible.”

It is quite a shock for the community in which Gomez lived. Janice Riccelli, a neighbor of Gomex said that the 23-year-old had been at her home a few weeks ago to play with her sons. “Knocked on the door asking for the kids and I said nobody was home and that was the last I heard of him,” said Riccelli. “He was good friends with a couple of my kids,” she added. “He randomly wrote me a few days ago,” said Janice’s son, Anthony, who was his childhood friend. “We use to be best friends in middle school.”

Gomez is being held without bail for first-degree murder at the Pinellas County Jail. Gomez has been arrested a few times and has had about 30 prior encounters with the law for minor charges such as disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in 2009, and loitering and prowling in March 2014, which was not prosecuted.
