article imageGerman town tripped up in organizing naked rambling route

By Anne Sewell     Jan 27, 2014 in Odd News
Trebbin - While Germans are apparently very fond of naturism, problems are being experienced setting up sufficient walking routes for naked hikers. So far there are only two official routes and authorities are trying to set up yet another in Trebbin, Brandenburg.
The routes that are available so far are one in the central Harz mountains and another on Lüneburg heath, south of Hamburg.
Despite the current chilly weather, officials in Trebbin, Brandenburg have been trying to set up a third naked rambling route. Authorities in the town decided last year that they wanted to designate a new nude walking route and tasked the town's culture committee with the job of finding somewhere suitable.
But now they are having a problem finding a path that would be quiet enough for such activities and now reckon it will take until at least 2015 to find somewhere suitable. This is reportedly very disappointing for German naked walkers.

A popular activity, according to Märkische Allgemeine (in German), 100 nude ramblers arrived from across eastern Germany in summer 2014 for the first organized naked ramble in the area.
It was due to the success of the organized ramble that the decision was made to set up a third naked rambling route in Trebbin.
Apparently they did find one very popular option, but had to dismiss the idea when they found out that on a nice weekend, that particular route could have up to 600 people walking along it (fully clothed, apparently). This is definitely not a suitable option, as it would then prevent up to 15,000 people visiting the route each year.
Two other possibilities have been tabled, but one was rejected by the committee because ramblers would need to cross dangerous weirs on their walk, and the second, apparently is still under consideration.
Berkiner Kurier (German) reported that Ulfert Hanschur, organizer of the 2013 naked ramble, said it is essential that the route is available to the naturists all the time, saying that, “Setting fixed times is not a good idea, it'll fizzle out.”
The mayor of Trebbin, Thomas Berger, is optimistic that the committee will be able to find something suitable by 2015, as he says it would be positive for tourism in the region, adding, “However it does have to be in line with the locals.” One would imagine it would.
