In an age of terrorism alerts, a flight to Croatia from Sweden was delayed for a rather more unusual reason, according to a report in
The Copenhagen Post on June 26, 2014 - a vibrating dildo.
Check-in staff alerted the airline about a suspicious piece of luggage, and passengers were asked to disembark from the aircraft, and for the owner of the piece of luggage to come forward and identify it.
An embarrassed young Swedish lady known only as Amanda, aged 20, came forward to identify the bag, after which she was requested to remove the batteries from the offending toy in front of her fellow passengers.
“I do not think it’s been embarrassing afterwards. It was embarrassing when I had to pull it [the dildo] out. Now I just think it’s funny. I am very free spirited and not really embarrass much,” Amanda was quoted in
The Huffington Post.
Scandinavian tourism to the Dalmatian coast has been booming in recent years, with many tourists from Norway and Sweden in particular taking advantage of direct flights to destinations such as Split, Zadar and Dubrovnik, where they are greeting by guaranteed sunshine and some of the best beaches and cleanest water in the world.
Henrik Edström, a spokesperson for SAS in Sweden, was quick to play down concerns of future passengers who might be concerned by potential delays due to vibrating sex toys, by stating that
vibrating dildoes delaying SAS flights was not a common occurrence.
Amanda was reported to be travelling alone on holiday to Croatia.
