article imageFirst Derm, a 'Crotch Selfie' app from Sweden, makes headlines

By Jeannie Stokowski-Bisanti     Jul 4, 2014 in Odd News
Launched in Sweden as an STD triage app, First Derm now accepts photos of any rash, bump, wart or strange mole above and below the waist, and works with a team of dermatologists to help identify the issue. The "Crotch Selfie" app is making headlines.
First Derm charges $39.99 and claims to be able to diagnose 90 different skin disorders anywhere on the body including Lyme disease, hemorrhoids, psoriasis, yeast infections, HPV, Herpes, and syphilis. The creators of the app recently rebranded their name because they realized that no one wanted to recommend an STD app to their friends. The app claims that 70 percent of inquiries still come from “below the waist.”
The app is completely anonymous and promises a response in 24 hours. Since its launch in January, First Derm has been downloaded 10,000 times and has provided 1,000 diagnoses, according to TechCrunch.
