article image'Fart Code' app teaches kids about smelly nutrition

By Walter McDaniel     Jun 9, 2014 in Odd News
Kids love toilet humor and a new app is seeking to use that to teach kids about food. Their promotional videos encourage kids to "get smart from your fart."
The app itself tries to get kids to do something they already want to do, look at food in stores, and do another thing they want to do, play with their phones. Youngsters can take their phones or those of their parents and scan bar codes on any food in a store. It will then rank their possible farts from "stinky" to "toxic" depending on what is in the food.
Children can also share their results online and each result comes with a listing of what is in the food. They also have facts about the individual ingredients. The idea is to get kids laughing about the first result and then to get them interested in finding out why the food causes it.
This may be a bit vulgar for some of us but if it fosters a love of learning in one child then it is probably worth it. How often the kids will actually look beyond the initial screen on smells is a better question to ask.
The product is currently in testing and if you think this is a good fit for any young people in your life then you can visit their site or download it on the app store. Reviews so far have called it "a gas to use."
