article imageDozens of people tweet 'joke' bomb threats to American Airlines

By James Walker     Apr 15, 2014 in Odd News
Dozens of people are now known to have tweeted joke 'humorous' bomb threats to American Airlines after the incident on Sunday night when a Dutch teenager tweeted the company.
The teen, identified only as 'Sarah', originally tweeted "@AmericanAirlines hello my name's Ibrahim and I'm from Afghanistan. I'm part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I'm gonna do something really big bye" The airline reported her to authorities who later arrested her in Rotterdam despite her protesting it was "only a joke," making her Twitter account private to mask the tweet and writing "I'm so stupid, I'm scared."

However, at least 12 other people are now confirmed to have tweeted American Airlines bomb threats and then claimed them to be "jokes" or pranks. The airline, police and FBI are now having to track down the origin of each tweet individually as such incidents cannot be taken as jokes however they appear because of the awful potential consequences in case any of them turn out to be actual threats — a huge waste of taxpayer money just because of a few Internet trolls having a "laugh."
There is no news forthcoming yet from Rotterdam on any charges being pressed against 'Sarah' so we will just have to see how the authorities handle this act of idiocy and the trolls it has sparked.
In the meantime, you can read a selection of the new tweets here on the Washington Post. Of course, don't even consider adding to the number of idiot tweets posted by writing once yourself — you will be liable to criminal prosecution and the authorities are taking all of the "jokes" as though they are real threats.
