Pratteln - In Switzerland, a donkey popped up out of a manhole and it had to be rescued. So far, investigators don't know why it was down there.
Urs Meyer, a local, said he was walking his dog in Pratteln, in northern Switzerland, when he came across the donkey sticking his head out of the manhole cover.
Meyer said that at first he thought the donkey was a toy, but then it started to move and shake its head.
According to The Local, the incident happened on Saturday, and the police were called. The police then called the fire department.
A team of firefighters carefully lifted the donkey to safety. According to The Austrian Times, it took firefighters around an hour to rescue the donkey.
A spokesman for the fire department said that the donkey got lucky because it didn't fall any deeper into the hole. The spokesman continued to say that they believe the donkey was in the manhole all night long. He added that aside from some small cuts from trying to wriggle free, it was unhurt.
The owner of the donkey was tracked down by police. The owner, a local farmer, said it escaped the previous day. The farmer added that the donkey would probably think twice before running off again because of the unpleasant end to the adventure.
