The lively woman, Albina Foisy of Lilooet in the Canadian province of British Columbia, happens to be 101. She’s enthusiastic about the snow, which, along with her having been on the planet for all those years, is helping to garner the video a lot of attention online.
By late Friday it was approaching 200,000 views.
“Albina playing in snow” was shot and posted to YouTube by her son, Armand, who is surprised to see so many looking at it. He narrates, at first intentionally slowing the action down in order to give us some background; Armand does this while his mother, in slow-motion, moves away from their car on a snowy country road and kneels to pick up some of the white stuff.
“It was raining in Lillooet, but we could see that the snow level was really low so we decided to check it out,” Armand narrates while slo-mo Albina grabs some snow. “A couple of kilometres from town, we were right into it.” He turned the car around and after doing so it was stopped a moment and before he knew it his mother had her door open and was out of the car.
A little later he explains that “when you have a 101-year-old mom, it’s a good idea to keep the camera nearby for those special moments. This is one of those.”
His mother has not lost her sense of curiosity with age, Armand said, and her reaction to making a snowball illustrates it. “Oh my oh my oh my oh my,” she keeps saying. She throws it and gets rather a kick out of watching it land.
Armand told CBC News that his mother lived on her own until a few months ago when she moved in with him and his wife. He said she is mentally as “acute as anybody” and is forever “ready to laugh at herself.” In this delightful video, we are laughing along with her.
