Dadeville City Councilman Frank Goodman proposed a ban on sagging pants during a meeting last month. In the same meeting, Goodman said that he thinks people deserve respect when they are out in public. He added that he thought slacking was disrespectful.
A colleague, Stephanie Kelley, has now proposed that men shouldn’t be the only ones told to cover up.
Kelley said that for the girls, with shorts that go up so high and dresses so short, she doesn’t want the council to show favoritism.
Goodman said that the ordinance is all about respect and not giving younger people the impression of what is cool. He added that there are people who walk around and they have to hold their pants up with their hands.
The councilman said that people that wear such clothing have the nerve to go into a place of business and ask for work.
One member of council said he has received positive feedback about the ordinance.
As of now, the ordinance has not been drawn up, but the city attorney plans on having it drawn by the next council meeting.
