La Florida - Police and Fire Department personnel rescued a suspected thief who became trapped in the chimney of a sushi restaurant while trying to rob the place. The man got stuck in the chimney and his accomplices left him there and escaped.
Police from the Special Operations Group (GOPE) and Firemen from La Florida, Santiago de Chile Fire Department, rescued a man desperately asking for help after becoming stuck in the chimney of a Sushi Restaurant in the Municipality of La Florida, a suburb of Santiago.
According to Nicole Venegas, owner of the restaurant, it is estimated that the suspect was trapped in the chimney for about an hour on Thursday night when he tried to escape from the place after stealing several items from the restaurant.
The situation was denounced by local residents living in the vicinity of Dai-Sushi Restaurant located at 979 East Trinidad Avenue in La Florida, who heard the desperate man crying for help after becoming stuck in the chimney and unable to leave the scene.
Fire Department and Police personnel came to rescue the man, who according to reports was accompanied by two accomplices who escaped from the location leaving their inept partner stuck in the chimney.
The restaurant owner said the thieves stole some bottles of alcoholic beverages, a tablet, a camera and a tripod, among other species, all worth about 1 million pesos (near 2 thousand dollars).
Interestingly, the individual caught in the chimney was known to the owner of the restaurant, since just a few days ago she had hired the man to perform repairs on the chimney. After being rescued, the suspect was referred to a medical facility to evaluate his injuries and to receive medical care.
