The car has been wrecked several times and it doesn’t always start but that isn’t stopping people from bidding on it. It all started with a video posted to the Young Turks YouTube channel. In the video, Cenk Uygur, host of the Internet-based Young Turks news program, shows the car and explains that they are selling it in order to fund Wolf PAC, a movement to get money out of politics.
The official website for Wolf PAC describes it as a plan to “restore true, representative democracy in the United States” by getting what they call a “Free and Fair Elections Amendment” to the Constitution passed. The proposed amendment, according to the website, would declare that corporations are not people and that they do not have the same rights as human beings, thereby preventing corporations from giving any money to a politician. It would also prevent any politician from raising over $100 from “any person or entity” and would require all elections to be publicly financed.
If you want to support the cause by purchasing the car, however, you might be in for one heck of a ride. (or maybe not, considering the fact that the car sometimes fails to start) According to Cenk, the car has an “enormous number of problems.” You won’t be able to use either of the rear windows, as one of them won’t close while the other won’t open. You also won’t able to defrost the windshield, as the knob that switches from Air conditioning to defrost is broken and stuck on A/C. Cenk does point out that the car is “old school” and has a tape player. Unfortunately, however, the tape player is also broken. In addition to all of these problems, the car has been wrecked on multiple occasions and has a bent wheel. Despite all of that, Cenk also points out that the car is a part of “The Young Turks” history. He claims it is the car he drove from New Jersey to Los Angeles to start The Young Turks.
The bids for the car have reached nearly $50,000 and it currently has 23 bids.
