Actor John Schneider helps out victims of the Louisiana floods

If you’re in Branson or close by this evening and are at a loose end, why not pop along to The Starlite Theatre for a concert and auction featuring John Schneider, known the world over for his portrayal of Bo Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard?

The 56-year-old showbiz veteran has appeared in numerous films and television programmes over the years, while also enjoying a successful career as a country music singer. Tonight he will be supported by local entertainers Jason Pritchett & The Steel Horses — and Johnny Lee — in his quest to raise funds to help those affected by the recent floods in Louisiana.

The state is home to Schneider’s film company John Schneider Studios, situated just outside Baton Rouge, and it’s where he shoots most of his movies — titles such as Hate Crime, Anderson Bench and Like Son.

In a statement issued last Monday, Schneider said: “I am very excited about going back to Branson. I haven’t been there to perform in over thirty years and there has been a big hole in my soul where Branson used to be.”

The mayor of the city, Karen Best, added: “I am very excited to welcome my old friend John back to Branson and am humbled by his outpouring of support to victims of these tragic circumstances.”

Schneider can certainly relate to what his neighbours are going through, having had two of his studios damaged by previous floods and having experienced three feet of water inside his 116-year-old home this time around.

Though he has lost a great deal in terms of material possessions and family heirlooms, the star is well aware that plenty of people have suffered far greater losses and his heart goes out to those who are unable to pay to fix the damage. “Disaster makes good people better and bad people worse,” he observes.

In addition to the concert, a silent auction will be held, offering a variety of items to be sold to the highest bidder.

The cost of admission is by donation, with a suggested minimum of $20 per ticket. Doors open at 6:00pm and the show is due to start an hour later. The money raised will be given to Convoy of Hope on behalf of the flood victims.
