On Friday, a woman from Pennsylvania was sentenced to jail for stealing her neighbor's dog and paying to have it euthanized.
The woman, Gisele Paris, 58, was sentenced to three to six months in jail by Common Pleas Judge Anthony Mariani, who ordered Paris to be taken to jail immediately after she was sentenced. Mariani told Paris that he didn't see anything that indicated that she understood the wrongfulness of her conduct.
According to ABC, Paris stole Thor, a Siberian husky, from Mark Boehler's yard backn in November 2013. She thought Thor was being neglected, even though a humane officer assured her he wasn't. Boehler, who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer months before Thor was taken, said his dog did have some health problems, but he wasn't suffering.
Thor had some growths on his hind legs, and a vet told Paris that it would cost $600 to remove them, but instead of paying for the growths to be removed, she paid to have the dog euthanized.
A veterinarian testified at Paris's December trial, and they said at the time Paris had Thor put down, he was healthy and he had no life-threatening issues. After her trial wrapped up, the jury found her guilty and she was convicted of cruelty to animals, theft and receiving stolen property.
