Salsa dispute leads to injury, arrest

Phyllis D. Johnson, 50, of Canton, has been charged with a second-degree felony count of felonious assault after she allegedly attacked her boyfriend with her pen because the man ate all the couple’s salsa.
The victim, Ronnie Buckner, 61, told law enforcement that he was eating the salsa Sunday at his apartment in Akron when the suspect began complaining he wasn’t leaving her enough salsa.
So enraged was Ms. Johnson that she reportedly stabbed him with a pen and attempted to knock over his television set.
Despite having a pen jabbed into the left side of his pelvis, Mr. Buckner was able to jump up and catch his TV before it fell onto the floor.
According to police reports, the suspect grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her wounded boyfriend a second time as he rescued his TV. When police arrived, the suspect was found lying on the ground outside his apartment bleeding, clutching the left side of his stomach.
The victim’s shirt and hands reportedly were covered in blood, and he was hospitalized for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the scene in her vehicle, but was apprehended a short time later along Interstate 77 near Akron.
Ms. Johnson has also been charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal endangering.
