Woman arrested after dog flung from a balcony

Police said the dog was flung from the balcony at an apartment at 5600 Sheppard Ave. E. on either August 21 or 22.

In a statement released on Friday, authorities said that two people were arguing, and one of the people involved in the argument ended up taking the other person’s pet and tossed it over the balcony.

One of the people involved in the argument was a 27-year-old woman, who was arrested. She is now facing animal cruelty charges for throwing the small dog off of the balcony. Sadly, the dog didn’t survive the fall.

Shortly after the incident happened, police launched an animal cruelty investigation. The woman’s identity has not been released, nor has any further information about the alleged animal cruelty because a vulnerable victim was involved.

Police said they didn’t want to reveal any details that could identify the person or that could lead to further victimization to the person. Authorities are also hoping that witnesses will come further.

One man did say he was aware of the dog’s death. The man, who didn’t want to be identified, said he thinks nobody saw the dog being tossed off the second-floor balcony, but people saw the aftermath. He said one woman was holding her dog and crying.

He said he wasn’t sure what kind of dog it was, but it was smaller than a Shih Tzu, which typically weights less than 15 pounds.
