article imageVideo: French bakery worker fights off armed robber with broom

By Anne Sewell     Jan 5, 2014 in Crime
Caught on a CCTV surveillance video, a worker from a bakery near Paris had a close call when an armed robber tried to rob the business, pointing a gun in her face. She lost her temper and attacked him with a broom.
It happened in Le Petit Duc, in the town of Saint-Maur-des-Fosses, France on Saturday. Initially the robber chased the shop manager to the back of the store and he then tried to smash open the till.
The woman, not wishing to see the robber steal the shop's takings, began attacking him with the broom and trying to drive him out of the store.
The robber grabbed her broom as she attacked him, but was at least rattled enough to run out of the store, smashing his way out in apparent panic.
The woman spoke to BFMTV in the video above after the incident, saying, “I think he was as scared as I was” and adding that it was pure “rage” that made her fight back.
The Local spoke to the owner of Le Petit Duc, who said, "What she did was extraordinary, but at the same time she risked her life."
"Any shop workers faced with this kind of attack should respond in moderation," she advised.
We don't really know how we will respond in a similar situation until it happens and the adrenaline takes hold.
Reportedly, despite the video footage police have been unable to locate and arrest the robber.
