article imageToronto man fired, then attacks and stabs 4 former co-workers

By Marcus Hondro     Apr 10, 2014 in Crime
A Toronto office worker, Chuang Li, clearly did not like what two managers of the company he worked for said when they sat him down Wednesday morning. He was fired, they told him, and they told him he had to collect his things and leave the building.
An angry Mr. Li, 47, responded by grabbing a knife or scissors (or both, as police say one of each was found at the scene) and attacking the both managers, stabbing each of them repeatedly. Another manager of the company heard the commotion and came into the office to intervene and he, too, was stabbed.
Running through the office-area of the fifth floor of the building, another man was stabbed. Employees managed to somehow hold onto Li and prevent further violence and by the time police arrived, Det. Dan Darnbrough told media, Li "had calmed down."
Of the first two stabbed in the office after telling the man he was fired, one woman and one man, the woman, in her 30s, went into surgery with life threatening injuries but is now stable. She was stabbed in her abdomen, stomach and her face.
The man who'd fired Li was with her and was attacked and stabbed in the abdomen and chest and he, too, is in hospital, though his injuries were not life-threatening. The other manager, the one who tried to intervene, also sustained non-life-threatening injures; he was stabbed below the eye and also remains in hospital.
The fourth employee of the company who was stabbed, also a man, was taken to hospital but has been released. The company, Ceridian, a human resources and payroll management technology company, released a statement that said in part that "The entire Ceridian family is shocked and deeply saddened by this incident."
Meanwhile, neighbours of Mr. Li told the Toronto Star he seemed a normal and pleasant man whenever seen around the neighborhood with his daughter or walking his dog. “He would walk the street with a smile on his face,” said neighbor William Sidora.
Police have laid three counts of attempted murder charges against Mr. Li, four counts of aggravated assault and another four counts of assault with a weapon.
