‘Subway guy’ Jared’s home raided in child porn investigation

Update: 5:22 p.m. EDT The Subway sandwich chain issued a statement saying that it has suspended its relationship with Jared Fogle, and that it “was an appropriate step to take,” according to the Associated Press.

Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle’s home was raided Tuesday morning by FBI agents conducting a child pornography investigation, according to multiple reports.

FBI sources told FOX59 News that state and federal investigators were serving warrants at Fogle’s Zionsville, Indiana home.

Around 6:30 a.m., FBI and Indiana State Police officers were at the scene and an evidence truck was seen parked in the driveway, according to Fox59 reports and photographs. Fogle was seen walking inside his home with a law enforcement officer.

Search warrants were reportedly issued in an ongoing case involving Russell Taylor, the former director of the Jared Foundation, who was arrested for child pornography in April.

Taylor, the former director of Fogle’s charity foundation — which is unaffiliated with Subway — was arrested for possessing and producing child pornography. Investigators found more than 400 videos in Taylor’s Indianapolis home. Some of the confiscated footage allegedly showed children being secretly filmed in bedrooms and bathrooms of Taylor’s home, federal prosecutors said.

Documented in the criminal complaint, there was a 4GB thumb drive that listed the Jared Foundation as the file name. Within that file, police reportedly found child pornography, according to TMZ.

Taylor is currently in prison under preliminary charges of child exploitation, possession of child pornography and voyeurism. Taylor attempted suicide in May in his prison cell.

Fogle said his foundation severed all ties with Taylor immediately after his arrest.

Subway released the following brief statement on Tuesday afternoon regarding the search:

“We are shocked about the news and believe it is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee. We are very concerned and will be monitoring the situation closely. We don’t have any more details at this point.”

There has been no official word whether this morning’s raid is connected to the charges against Taylor.

Fogle, recognized by millions as “the Subway guy” who lost over 240 pounds, established the Jared Foundation in 2004 to end childhood obesity and raise awareness about healthy eating. Taylor had been Executive Director and the only staff person of the small nonprofit that raised around $127,000 in 2013.
