Shooting in Toronto at McDonald’s leaves 2 dead, one injured

Shooting on Toronto’s Danforth

The shooting took place at about 3 a.m. on Danforth Ave. near Coxwell in the east end of Toronto. An altercation took place inside the restaurant and the shooting broke out.

Toronto police said the man wounded in the hand is a security guard, not one affiliated with McDonald’s, and that he is a suspect in the shooting. He was in the fast-food restaurant ordering food when it occurred. They are not saying how he was wounded but did say that he is cooperating and that they are not looking for any other suspects.

There were about 15 customers in the restaurant. The two dead men, reportedly 25-and-40-years-old, died on scene.

November Toronto restaurant shooting

This shooting contrasts another Toronto restaurant shooting in the early morning hours, one that took place in November at the Garden Restaurant, 153 Dundas St. W., near University Ave. That shooting took place at 4 a.m. but the restaurant was packed with 60 customers who had come from local nightclubs.

In the bathroom of the restaurant, three men tried to rob a man of jewelery and 31-year-old Tariq Mohammed, a friend of the man, stepped in to help him. Mohammed and his friend left the bathroom but were followed out and Mohammed was shot dead. In January two men, Marcus Gibson, 22, and Ceyon Carrington, 28, were arrested and have been charged with first-degree murder.

Police have not released the names of the dead in today’s shooting at McDonald’s. They examined security footage and say the altercation broke out suddenly and escalated quickly.
