Spanish Fork - An 18-year-old Utah man faces a murder charge after it was alleged he helped a 16-year-old girl commit suicide. He allegedly filmed the girl’s suicide-by-hanging and told police he always wanted to see someone die.
The girl’s mother said her daughter left work around 7 p.m. Friday. When she failed to return home that night, her mom called police and reported her missing early Saturday morning. At around 7 a.m. that day, a group of turkey hunters found the girl’s body near a campground.
According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, while officers were at the scene, they were approached by Tyerell Joe Pryzbycien. The 18-year-old allegedly told officers he was with the girl when she died.
Police say Pryzbycien also told them he knew the girl and had picked her up Friday night. The two went to a store where they purchased items used by the 16-year-old to take her own life. He then drove her to the area where she killed herself.
Evidence found at the scene included two plastic bags. Inside one of the bags was a cellphone and a handwritten note identifying the girl and saying to watch the video on the phone if there are any questions.

said there was nothing to indicate Pryzbycien had told the girl to kill herself or that he encouraged her to do so. But then he did absolutely nothing to help her or prevent her from doing what she did. The video continued for about 10 minutes after she hanged herself and Pryzbycien can be heard asking her to move or say something. After filming the suicide, Pryzbycien left the area but returned the next morning when police were there.
The girl had mental health issues and had suicidal thoughts in the past. Officials do not believe Pryzbycien talked her into killing herself. Police say he told them he was suicidal and had considered a suicide pact. He had a fascination with death and wanted to watch someone die.
Police say Pryzbycien expressed remorse during the interview and felt the girl might still be alive had he not helped her.
Pryzbycien is being held on suspicion of murder. Police allege although he played no active role in the 16-year-old’s death, he facilitated her suicide by purchasing the items she needed. Those items were purchased with Pryzbycien's credit card. He then drove her to the area where she took her own life. He is being held on a cash-only bail of $20,000.
