Robbery suspect arrested with loot having coffee a block from bank

Bank robber stops for coffee

That is actually what a man in Lodi, New Jersey did this week. The fellow robbed the Hudson City Savings Bank in Lodi on Monday. Wearing a fedora hat, he simply walked in and put a BB-gun on the counter and told the teller it was the real deal and that he wanted money.

He was obliged and given $4,000 in cash. He escaped without hurting anyone, though naturally the teller got a terrible fright.

The police were summoned and Chief David Pegg told local media that as he stood outside the savings bank, one of his officers saw a white man in a dark jacket that fit the exact description of the robber, including wearing a fedora of the same type and color as the one worn by the thief.

Arrested outside coffee shop

He was at a Dunkin Donuts, idly sipping on a coffee and passing the time, perhaps thinking about the events that had transpired about 25 minutes before. The officer who spotted him got a back-up and the two went over to talk to the man, who attempted to move off to his nearby SUV.

The officers caught up with him and it turns out the fellow not only had a fedora that matched the description of the robber’s fedora, but also a gun that matched the description of the gun and the same amount of cash as the amount that had been stolen.

Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Cassano of Oakland Garden, New York was taken into custody, arrested and charged with robbery and two counts of weapons offences.

No word as to whether Mr. Cassano regrets not waiting until he got home to brew himself a cup of java but we’re thinking just maybe that would have been the wiser choice.
