Police: Thirty-one-year old woman attended school as sophomore

By Larry Clifton     May 16, 2014 in Crime
Longview - It's likely that many would love to return to high school with hindsight. Perhaps most would avoid pranks like mooning classmates from a convertible in proximity to a school resource officer this time around.
However, a 31-year-old woman in Longview, Texas who lied about her age to enroll as a sophomore was probably pushing the limit when it comes to reliving the past.
Charity Johnson enrolled at New Life Christian School in October 2013 using a fake ID identifying her as Charity Stevens, according to police.
For those who find it difficult to imagine why school officials didn’t realize something was amiss from the start, picture George Stephanopoulos, President Clinton’s spokesperson, when he first arrived at the White House.
In any case there was no explanation provided in the report as to how a 31-year-old was able to attend classes at the school for months without anyone suspecting she was about the same age that NFL quarterbacks retire.
Nevertheless, Johnson arrived at the school with guardian Tamica Lincoln with an ID tagging her as 15, same age as most wide-eyed sophomores.
Apparently, Lincoln was a surprised as Johnson’s teachers and classmates about her advanced age since she met with Johnson’s teachers to discuss her academic progress.
It’s not clear from the report whether Johnson was attending any accelerated classes.
"I sympathized with her, and invited her into my home. I took her in as a child, did her hair, got her clothes and shoes," Lincoln told KLTV. "I just don't know why she did it. Why put yourself and others at risk to do something like this? I have deep concerns about her being who we don't know she is, and then she's out there at the school."
Johnson allegedly told police her name was Charity Stevens when they arrested at her apartment for failure to identify & giving false, fictitious information before transporting the somewhat senior sophomore to Gregg County Jail.
