article imagePolice: Shoplifter tried to infect Wal-Mart employee with HIV

Dallas - Police say that a homeless woman who has HIV was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly stealing $11.00 worth of frozen food from a Dallas Wal-Mart and threatening to infect an employee who confronted her about it.
Diamond Lawrence, 25, allegedly took the food and when the employee confronted her as she tried to walk out of the store, she attacked him — striking the man in the face and scratching his neck in an attempt to draw blood and give him HIV, police say, 5 NBC reports.
"I can infect whomever I please," she said according to police reports. Lawrence was wearing a medical wristband which noted she has HIV.
She has been charged with attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The employee was treated for scratches on the left side of his face, police said. Fortunately, infection is unlikely. Lawrence bragged about her HIV to the employee and the officer who arrested her, and police believe she was deliberately attempting to infect someone with HIV.
Police records say that Lawrence sarcastically told the employee "You're welcome" numerous times after the attack.
Although Wal-Mart doesn't prosecute shoplifting for small numbers of items, Lawrence had two outstanding arrest warrants for an invalid driver's license and for public intoxication. She has been asked never to return to that Wal-Mart, The Dallas Morning News reports.
Lawrence is currently in the Dallas County Jail. Bail has been set at $1,500.
