Jaén, Spain — It's not often that a thief can actually help the police in their work. In this case, a burglar tipped the police off after finding incriminating video tapes of child sex abuse when robbing a man's home.
Spain's National Police (in Spanish) report that they received an anonymous tip by way of a call from a pay phone, presumably from a burglar. The man told them about the incriminating video tapes, which he had probably stolen from the home.
The burglar tipped police off that he had left an anonymous note, along with three video tapes, showing abuse against children aged around 10, underneath a brown car in the center of the city of Jaén.
The anonymous note, which contained the address of the suspect, read as follows:
"I have had the misfortune to have these tapes fall into my hands and feel obliged to submit them so you can do your work and put this ... in jail for life."
The note also contained the identity of the suspected pedophile.
This led to Spanish police arresting the suspected pedophile football coach on Thursday, following a search of his home and the indoor football club where he worked.
According to police, they have so far traced four of the pedophile's victims, which include a 16-year-old boy who had reportedly been abused by the man since he was 10.
Ironically, the suspect had reported a burglary at his home nine days before. He had listed several appliances as being stolen, but no mention was made of his missing camera or the video tapes, according to police.
