The boy underwent surgery at Gazi Hospital in Ankara, News.com.au reports.
However, the boy’s mother didn’t like the results of the surgery, so early in the morning she took the child to the women’s toilet and choked him to death with her scarf.
Sacan was apprehended after fleeing the hospital in her car and hitting another vehicle. She confessed to the murder while she was transported back to the hospital in an ambulance, News.com.au reports.
“Both of his ears had become even bigger after the surgery,” she allegedly said, according to Yahoo! 7 News. “He became very ugly. He would have felt even more ashamed in front of his friends. I did it to save him such embarrassment.”
Her son had endured years of bullying and teasing because his ears stuck out and she paid for the surgery in the hopes that the cruelty would stop, she said.
“I was trying to protect him from a lifetime of pain,” she said.
The boy’s surgeons were stunned, Opposing Views reports.
“I am astonished she would think that,” said Dr. Metin Yilmaz, the boy’s surgeon,per Opposing Views. “The operation was a simple one and it was a complete success. There were no post-operative issues and he was due to go home.”
A police spokesman confirmed that “a 37-year-old woman is in custody over the death of her son,” News.com.au reports.
