According to
New York Times, this all went down on Friday night. They fired shots at the man while he was in the intersection of Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard.
The police department is not sharing a lot of information until an internal investigation is done. More information should come out at a later date. The man was armed with a pocketknife and the police officers shot him during their altercation. Detective Meghan Aguilar said that the man was approaching officers with the knife when he was shot by them.
Huffington Post shared that the officers were responding to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon. A witness by the name of Bruce Cherry said "when they told him to get down and comply, he did not at all." Cherry's report also says that the police officers shot him when he stuck his hands in his pockets.
The suspect did not die at the scene. He was taken to the hospital and died at approx. 9:30 p.m. Several people at the scene posted videos and pictures to social networks of the scene. Lisa Bergman showed a
picture of the man on the ground with a police officer pointing his gun at him. She also shared that she was in shock after seeing it happen.
