article imageMan sentenced to 37 years for raping women he met on dating sites

By Owen Weldon     Nov 8, 2014 in Crime
On Friday, a man from California was sentenced to 37 years to life in prison for raping women he met on dating sites, including ChristianMingle.com.
According to Raw Story, Sean Patrick Banks, 39, will need to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.
Banks, a former lieutenant in the United States Navy, was convicted of two counts of forced penetration, as well as a count of forcible rape. He was also convicted of one count of rape of an intoxicated woman and one count of burglary.
According to Los Angeles Times, Banks told El Cajon Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein, that if his victims took a polygraph test, he would drop his appeal.
Goldstein said that asking a victim to do that showed a lack of remorse. He also said that Banks' statements to police showed his hatred of women.
Gloria Allred, an attorney who attended the sentencing on behalf of one of Banks' victims, said that Banks' suggestion is insulting to the jury and the victims, who already endured cross examination.
Brian White, Banks' attorney, said that there was no forensic evidence that Banks raped the women.
Banks was arrested in 2013 for the 2012 rape of a woman he met via ChristianMingle.com. A second woman came forward and recount being raped by Banks in 2009.
Prosecutors said that forensic evidence from Banks' computer showed that he used false identities to trawl for victims on sites such as Match.com, PlentyofFish.com and ChristianMingle.com.
