A traffic stop in Irving, Texas took a surprising turn on Tuesday. A man being issued a ticket fled the scene to chase a hit-and-run driver who had smashed into the police officer’s motorcycle.
While the police officer was writing a ticket for driver, another driver in a truck collided into the officer’s motorcycle. The driver did not stop even though the motorcycle nearly hit the police officer from the impact.
The driver who was receiving the ticket took off from the scene, leaving the police officer with a damaged motorcycle and two drivers on the run.
Texas news station, News 8, quoted the police officer as saying “I got one running,” on his radio radio. “I’ve been hit on the highway. The guy I was writing a ticket to just fled.”
According to police reports, bystanders had made multiple 911 calls to inform police a man with a knife was holding a man to the ground. The police went to the scene and arrested the suspect in the hit-and-run.
Raw footage of the police chasing the suspect’s truck and the arrest have been released by the Irving police.
Fox 4 news showed footage of the alleged hit-and-run driver on the ground being detained another man. An eyewitness stated that one man pulled the other man out of the truck and wrestled him to the ground.
Police suspect that texting while driving was the reason the truck crashed into the officer’s motorcycle.
The driver who chased the suspect’s truck was not issued a ticket. He was given a warning.
