article imageMan gets arrested after shining laser at helicopter

By Owen Weldon     Oct 27, 2014 in Crime
Birmingham - A video of a man on the ground pointing a laser at a flying helicopter surfaced, and it shows the man being arrested after the helicopter's equipment zoned in on him.
According to Metro, the video shows how pilots and aircraft crew are affected due to someone shining lasers into their cockpits.
However, the man apparently didn't know that the helicopter was watching him while they called in officers on foot to confront him.
The man was sitting out on a patio with others, and then the video shows him shining a laser at the helicopter. However, the man didn't know the helicopter was actually owned by the National Police Air Service, and that they used thermal imaging cameras to locate the man's locations.
At one point in the video, another person lifts their drink up in the air to toast.
The video then shows police entering the patio and then they place the culprit under arrest. The man they arrested was Chris Vowles.
The incident occurred at the end of July, and on October 16 he received a sentenced. The court sentenced was " seven months suspended for two years," and he was also sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work. The court ordered him to pay around $160 victim's surcharge fee and around $480 in other costs.
