Over the past six months Moon has been working to convert a Cincinnati home that his father bought some 25 years ago into a community center. The home is located at 1853 Kinney Avenue. Moon lives on the same street and says that he wants to “do some good for my people.”
Relying on money from his own friends and family, and using his own sweat and labor, Moon has been working to remodel the home into a neighborhood community center that can act as a meeting place and provide educational resources for local residents.
Moon’s efforts, however, have faced a serious setback: his community center has been broken into numerous times. On June 3rd, Moon was allegedly attacked by three young males and two females. During the attack he asked “why” repeatedly, but receive no answer.
Despite the attack, Moon claims that he loves “everyone.” While he was clearly upset and physically hurt by the attack, Moon ends his video with the simple message “I love you,” which he appears to be addressing to his attackers.
A Go Fund Me page has also been set up. As of the writing of this article, the fund has exceeded its goal of raising $5,000 and has raised more than $20,000.
On the Go Fund Me page, Moon states that he left his job two months ago to dedicate himself to the community center.
Moon says that he has put in hours of his own time into his community center, trying to build a place where people can share ideas, engage in cultural activities such as reading poetry, learn how to garden, and engage in various other activities.
The community center has not yet been set up as a 501c3, but Moon plans to do so in the near future.
