A man is because charged with neglect after he was accused of leaving his elderly mother inside a hot car for almost five hours.
According to CBS, on Monday police in Maryland were called to the parking garage of the Maryland Live! Casino, located in Anne Arundel County. They were responding to a report of an unaccompanied elderly woman who was sitting inside a truck.
According to patch, the mother of Dwight Ridgeway McGinnis Jr., 67, is 98 years old.
According to Daily Mail, police said that the elderly woman is confined to a wheelchair and she is not able to care for herself.
The temp was 81F, and McGinnis left just one window partially open. Authorities noticed that there was also an empty can of soda in the vehicle.
The woman was eventually able to tell police where her son was, but initially she was incoherent. The woman was found not to be in any medical distress, and she was given some water. The Department of Social Services were also contacted by authorities.
McGinnis was arrested after police called his cellphone, and he returned to the vehicle. He now faces a vulnerable adult neglect charge, and he was also served with an outstanding warrant because he did not appear in court for a driving suspended charge.
