Mom shot by son
Jamie Gilt is in stable condition in hospital and her having survived the shooting has doubtless made it easier for others to make fun of her. On her Facebook page entitled ‘Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense’ she had written various supportive gun ownership missives and had links to gun sites.
Just the day before being shot through the back (police said the bullet exited her stomach) Gilt wrote that if anyone broke into her home they would likely be shot dead and that even children must learn to fire a gun.
“All of ours know how to shoot too,” Gilt wrote. “Even my four-year-old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22.” That comment has since been taken down.
Unhappily for Gilt she was correct in stating her kids, even the four-year-old boy, do indeed know how to shoot. It’s unclear how he managed the get the .45 caliber gun and shoot his mother while she was driving down a country road near Jacksonville, Florida.
Facebook postings
One commentator on her website, who signed his post as Juan Miguel Reyes Guerra, mocked her by asking “Haven’t you taught your boy that he should aim at the head?” Another, Laurence Edward Ligon wrote that if the mother also had a gun at the time “she could have taken down her attacker.” He added “you just can’t make this stuff up. KARMA!”
Others gave Ms. Gilt advice, one writing that “maybe you’ll understand the guns you portray as fun toys, are not” while another told her that, judging from the wound she sustained, she had better get used to having related health issues for the rest of her life.
Cara Brosius called Gilt an “idiot” and said that she should be arrested. As it happens, it is a misdemeanor in Florida to store your gun where a child can have access and police are investigating with a view to possibly charg Gilt.
