article imageGirl who sued parents accuses boyfriend of domestic violence

By Walter McDaniel     Jul 24, 2014 in Crime
Morristown - Rachel Canning, 18, took her boyfriend Lucas Kitzmiller, also 18, to court accusing him of choking her. Authorities are taking note that this is the same boyfriend her parents were asking Canning to dump.
Canning made news when she filed suit with her parents over tuition money and child support. She eventually dropped the case when judges withheld the money she was calling for.
Judges ruled against Kitzmiller and gave him a temporary restraining order for his actions. Further hearings will decide whether the ruling with be applied permanently. For her part Canning has moved back in with her parents and received a $56,000 scholarship.
Media coverage also stands out as publications such as the New York Post have painted the girl as a "Bratty teen" who parties all the time. According to both parents and classmates she did in fact go out drinking with her boyfriend nearly every weekend.
As comments with Dr. Drew showed there was a certain amount of public outrage over the entire incident. Comment sections across dozens of sites are also filled with readers talking about how she does not deserve her scholarship.
Other than her lawyer and some Facebook friends people coming to her defense are silent. Parody pages have sprung up about the entire event so it looks like this will be in the public eye for some time.
