By Arthur Weinreb     Mar 26, 2017 in Crime
Chicago - Chicago police confirmed a 15-year-old girl whose alleged gang rape was streamed on Facebook Live is now in a “safe space.” The girl’s mother said since the incident her daughter and the family have been harassed and threatened at home and online.
The 15-year-old went missing from her home last Sunday afternoon while going to the store. She was found Tuesday after she was allegedly gang raped. The alleged sexual assault was streamed and viewed by 40 people, none of whom bothered to call police or do anything else to help her.

On Friday, Chicago Police said since Tuesday, the day the teen was reunited with her family, she and her family have been taunted by kids in the neighbourhood and online. On Wednesday, the girl’s mother told AP her daughter had been threatened on Facebook that “they are going to get her.” In addition to these online threats, the mom said some children in the neighbourhood think what happened to her daughter is funny. They are laughing about what happened and some ring the family’s doorbell looking for her.
The girl’s mother said the harassment began just hours after her daughter was found. She said she has a hard time believing how callous some people can be.

Superintendent Eddie Johnson described what is happening to the girl as “sickening.” Johnson commented she was victimized once and is now being victimized again. The superintendent added as a father of girls, this really disgusts him.
Johnson also told the media the family has been offered relocation assistance by the Cook County State Attorney’s Office and patrols have been increased around the girl’s home. The girl is now in a "safe space."
No arrests have been yet been made and police are attempting to identify the five or six males in the video. Police believe all of them are juveniles. Johnson said because they are minors the investigation is taking longer than it normally would. Police want to get everything right and the investigation is proceeding.
In addition to the main investigation, another one has been opened concerning the harassment and threats made to the girl and her family.
