article imageGeorge Zimmerman parents sue actor Roseanne Barr for nasty tweets

By Marcus Hondro     Mar 13, 2014 in Crime
The parents of George Zimmerman, the man who killed black teen Trayvon Martin, have sued actress Roseanne Barr. Barr published the Zimmerman's address on Twitter, forcing them, they claim, to flee their own home.
Robert Zimmerman Sr. and his wife Gladys Zimmerman claim that due to Barr publishing their address on March 29, 2012, they suffered damages including emotional distress and invasion of privacy.
The suit, in Florida, claims Barr "intentionally inflicted emotional distress" when she published their home address on Twitter and followed it up with other tweets concerning the Zimmermans and their home. One read: "If Zimmerman isn't arrested I'll rt (re-tweet) his address again — maybe go 2 his house myself."

The Zimmermans say the actions of the 61-year-old Barr forced them to leave their home in Lake Mary, Florida, in the middle of the night, fearing if they did not they would be the victims of "vigilante Justice." Their suit claims that Barr tried to "incite a lynch mob to descend" upon them when she published their address.
While media reports at the time reported their son was staying at his parent's home, there was no confirmation that he was. Robert Zimmerman Jr. was arrested and charged with the death of Trayvon Martin but in July of 2013 a jury found him not criminally responsible.
The only witness who saw the fight between Zimmerman Jr. and Martin said he saw Martin on top of Zimmerman Jr. punching him repeatedly. Another witness came upon the scene after Martin had been shot and saw Zimmerman Jr. and told the court that Zimmerman Jr. appeared to have "got his butt beat". Zimmerman Jr., whose nose was broken, claimed that he was forced to shoot Martin.
Barr eventually deleted her posting of the Zimmerman address but not before her many thousands of followers had access to it. She has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
