Florida judge recognizes burglary suspect as old childhood friend

WPLG reports 49-year-old Arthur Booth appeared in Miami-Dade County Judge Mindy Glazer’s courtroom for a bond hearing last week. Booth is facing numerous charges, including burglary and grand theft, fleeing, and resisting arrest.

According to an arrest document reported by NBC Miami, Booth was spotted driving a gold Honda Accord suspected of being involved in a home burglary. When a police officer attempted to stop the vehicle, Booth fled the scene, running multiple stop signs and getting into multiple accidents before crashing the car in the area of Northwest 36th Street and North River Drive in Hialeah.

During the courtroom proceedings, Glazer asked Booth if he attended Nautilus Middle School in Miami Beach. Recognizing an old childhood friend, Booth broke down in tears, covering his head and repeating, “Oh my goodness, oh my goodness.”

“I’m sorry to see you there, I always wondered what happened to you sir,” Glazer said as Booth continued weeping. “This was the nicest kid in middle school, he was the best kid in middle school. I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened.”

After commenting on how old they’d become, Glazer wished her old playmate well.

“Good luck to you sir,” she said. “I hope you are able to come out of this O.K. and just lead a lawful life.”

Booth’s bond was set at $43,000, the Associated Press reports.
