article imageDoctor Who: Robot of Sherwood 'beheading scene' edited out

By Mathew Wace Peck     Sep 5, 2014 in Crime
Following the recent Islamic State beheadings of two US journalists, the BBC has removed footage from tomorrow night's episode of "Doctor Who", in which a character received a similar fate.
In a statement on its website, the television corporation said it had made the change to Robot of Sherwood "in light of recent news events."
A spokesperson for the BBC added, "In light of recent news events, we have made an edit to episode three out of respect."
The "recent events" being referred to are the horrific public executions by militants from the Islamic State (previously known as ISIS) of the two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff.
According to a report by Digital Spy, the edited section is believed to be a fight scene between Robin Hood — as played by Tom Riley (Da Vinci's Demons) — and the Sheriff of Nottingham — played by Ben Miller (Death in Paradise).
The third episode of Season 8, Doctor Who: Robin of Sherwood stars Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. In Sherwood Forest, the legendary home of Robin Hood, the time-travelling duo fall upon an evil plan from beyond the stars and strike up an unlikely alliance with Robin Hood himself, " who you thought didn't exist!"
Other cast members include Joseph Kennedy as Will Scarlett and Ian Hallard (An Adventure in Space and Time).
