Cop crashes into sober driver, arrests her for DUI

By Nate Smith     May 8, 2014 in Crime
Milwaukee - A deputy of the Milwaukee, Wisc. Sheriff's Office admitted he tried to pin a vehicle crash he caused while patrolling a regional airport on a young woman, charging her with drunk driving.
Joseph Quiles rolled a stop sign as he circled General Mitchell International Airport while on duty when he struck a crossing Toyota Camry driven by Tanya Weyker, 25.
According to a crash report filed that night by Dep. Quiles, Ms. Weyker had an odor of alcoholic beverage about her breath, had admitted to taking a sip from a friend's alcoholic drink and, because she'd apparently just had her wisdom teeth taken out, had recently been prescribed Vicodin.
Based on the reported odor of alcohol, and that Ms. Weyker's eyes were red and glassy and, also because of her statements to first responders, she was charged with drunk driving and a handful of other charges that night at the hospital.
Because of her extensive injuries (Ms. Weyker sustained a fractured neck in the crash,) no field sobriety tests were administered.
It wasn't until months later, after blood tests results were returned, were Ms. Weyker's claims of innocence substantiated.
Dep. Quiles later admitted to an internal investigator that he knew he was at fault for the crash.
Officially, the deputy is on medical leave from the crash, though the crash report indicates he was treated for only minor injuries the night of the collision.
