Two brothers who Calgary police have in custody have today been named and charged in a prolonged and brutal sexual assault of a young teen Friday night that lasted until the next morning. The brothers were taken into custody early Saturday morning.
The two named, Corey George Manyshots, 25, and Cody George Manyshots, 21, are alleged to have assaulted the 17-year-old teenager in an alley and then taken her to a home and assaulted her again, repeatedly, according to CTV News.
They are each charged with kidnapping, uttering threats, with sex assault causing bodily harm and assault causing bodily harm.
Sgt. Melanie Oncescu of the Calgary Police Service child abuse gave details of the crime to a press conference on Sunday afternoon. The teen, who cannot be named due to her age, was waiting for a bus in the northeast section of the city.
The men approached and grabbed her, dragging her to an alley and sexually assaulted her. They then took the woman by foot to an undisclosed home in a nearby community. There she was sexually assaulted and a weapon was used. She managed to escape around 8 a.m., doing so, Sgt. Oncescu said, while the men were distracted. She found her way home and her family contacted police, who got a warrant and arrested the two men.
The teen is suffering injuries, possibly even a concussion. “She’s being cared for, and obviously in a circumstance like this it’s a very traumatic incident,” Sgt. Oncescu said at the press conference Sunday. “We’ll make sure that she has supports in place to deal with this.”
Corey Manyshots, the older brother charged, has numerous run-ins with the law. CBC News reported he is facing other, unrelated charges, and they include two counts of assaulting a police officer, disturbing a religious assembly and four breaches of release conditions.
The will be held until their first court appearance on November 24.
