Butt dialing 911 leads to man's arrest

By Alex Allen     Sep 14, 2014 in Odd News
Mount Pleasant - A Tennessee man was arrested after 911 dispatchers allegedly heard him talking about getting high and going to a drug dealer's house.
If you're planning an illegal drug purchase, it's probably best not to inform law enforcement. Twenty-five-year-old Grant O'Connor, however, had no idea he was giving himself away to the police as he casually talked about his drug-related plans over dinner with a friend.
O'Connor was allegedly eating dinner with a female friend at a Mexican restaurant when he accidentally "butt-dialed" 911. Having no idea that the dispatchers were on the other end of the line and able to hear every word he was saying, O'Connor proceeded to have a conversation about getting high and going to a drug dealer's house.
The 911 dispatchers were able to trace the call and the police arrived on the scene just in time to bust O'Connor, who was reportedly pulling out of the parking lot. Seeing that O'Connor's friend's car had a tag light out, officers pulled the couple over. They noticed that O'Connor was trying to hide a small bag of pot under the passenger seat in which he was sitting. O'Connor eventually admitted that the drugs were his and he was arrested for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The woman, who claimed she had no idea that the drugs were in the car, was allowed to leave without any charges.
O'Connor claims he had no clue that he had accidentally dialed 911 until the cops informed him. He was later released on bond and, while he may be free to go for the time being, he has likely learned to be a little more cautious with his future drug-related endeavors.
