Stockton - Two people are confirmed dead following a Stockton, CA bank robbery that lead to a high speed pursuit and gun battle between police and the suspects.
The incident began approximately 2:30 p.m. pacific time when three gunman walked into the Thornton Road Bank of the West. As the robbery suspects left the bank, they took at least two hostages. Police officers responding to the scene observed the alleged suspects in a blue Ford Expedition and began pursuit. According to News 10, the suspects began firing at police during the pursuit, using what appeared to be an AK-47-style rifle.
After approximately a 40-minute high speed chase, the suspects stopped their vehicle at Thornton and Wagner Heights and began firing on officers again. Police returned fire, killing at least one suspect. Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva told Fox40 that two hostages have been transported to an area hospital, while another hostage was killed during the gun battle. One of the hostages were shot during the pursuit and thrown from the vehicle according to Fox40.
One suspect is confirmed to have been killed while the other two have been transported to the hospital for injuries. The conditions of the suspects and hostages hospitalized are not known at this time. According to KTVU a command post has been established at the scene while police continue their investigation.
