Man shot in Auburn Bay
What is known about this shooting is that the police were called to the street outside a house on Auburn Sound Close S.E. at 9:36 a.m.. In the street they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. One report said paramedics tried to resuscitate the man but he died in the street. The Calgary police website only said that he was dead in the street when they arrived.
Police have not yet given details such as the man’s name or his age. They have determined the death is a homicide and are investigating it as such.
This death is the third homicide in Calgary already in 2015, though it could have been more. On January 1, seven people were shot at New Year’s Eve house party in the Killarney district, with only one of those victims, 26-year-old Abdullahi Ahmed, dying from his wounds. The very next day the body of Murat Osman Omar, 23, was found in an alley in the Rosedale area after shots had been heard firing in the early morning hours.
Both those men were from Calgary’s Somali community and that community is looking at ways to end the violence being perpetrated by Somalis in that city on one another. There is nothing to suggest at this time this latest death is related to the Somali community there.
Other tragedies in Calgary included five youths being stabbed to death last April. In that case a young man, described as having mental health issues, is in jail and awaiting trial.
