Complaints lodged
The girls are seen in a video on social media picking up the rabbit and throwing it against a wall, then picking it up again and throwing it against the wall again, and repeating their action even when the rabbit tries to escape.
The three cruel kids appear to be having lots of fun and are giggling and laughing as they go about tormenting the defenseless bunny. One girl can be seen kicking it as it tries to run away.
Nassau Country police say the girls are 13 and 14 years old and that their names cannot released due to their age. The video, posted initially on Snapchat, was seen by thousands and lead to complaints being lodged, which in turn lead to the police finding and arresting the girls.
Animal cruelty
They were charged with animal cruelty on Saturday and taken to a juvenile detention center in Jacksonville. It’s unclear, however, if they have been been released to the custody of their parents or remain in the facility. A court date will be scheduled.
A portion of the video could be seen here on Facebook, though it may be taken down. The video is filmed in a room in a house.
The bunny survived the incident and police arranged for it to be taken to the SPCA where it was treated for a broken leg and more minor injuries. Once it fully recovers it will be put up for adoption.
