Charlotte - A juvenile shot and killed another teen during an apparent home invasion, and the deceased's brother has been charged in connection with the break-in.
The 14-year-old boy shot and killed 18-year-old Isai Robert Delcid during the incident, which first was reported to police about 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Carlos Delcid, 20, reportedly was with his brother during the breaking-and-entering and fled the scene after his brother was shot.
George Wyant, the teen's grandfather, and owner of the targeted home situated on Rolling Fields Road in McKlenburg County, North Carolina, said the boy was visiting his grandmother when the intruders broke into the rear of the home.
Mr. Wyant said he wasn't home at the time of the incident. He said the teen was defending his grandmother, and that the boy warned the intruders that he had a gun in the house.
As they suspects maintained their efforts to break into the home, the boy fired the fatal shot through the door that killed the 18-year-old teen.
The grandfather also said the boy knows what it's like to lose a loved one to gun violence. The youth's father was killed in 2008 while working on a vehicle in the mechanic shop he owned.
He told local media the gun was intentionally left at home for protection and that he personally taught his grandson to shoot.
Mr. Wyant also said that was the second time his own house had been targeted in the last 12 months.
