article imageWorld's most expensive taxis? — Not where you might think

By Mike Rossi     Jul 10, 2014 in Travel
Christchurch - Which metropolitan destination has the most expensive taxis in the world?
Los Angeles?
A taxi ride may cost a pretty-penny in these international hubs, but not one of them owns the top spot.
In fact, not one of them cracks the top five.
As surprising as it may seem, the most expensive city to hire a taxi in the world is...
...Christchurch, New Zealand.
At an average of $4.50 per kilometer, the oldest city in New Zealand charges more for a cab than anywhere else, according to a survey conducted by Digital Hothouse and Go Rentals.
The survey measured the cost of a taxi ride from the airport to the central business district of 17 major cities across the globe against the total distance traveled to obtain their results.
Nipping at the heels of Christchurch, Queenstown (NZ), Sydney (AU), Perth (AU) and Melbourne (AU) round out the top five.
The first city outside of New Zealand and Australia that even cracks the Top 10 is London at #8.
While world's costliest taxi is a moniker no city wants, don't expect it to dissuade anyone from travelling to Christchurch or any other destination on the list. Most, if not all, offer extensive public transportation for those looking to avoid cab fare, not to mention an array of incredible experiences for even the most timid tourist.
Bottom line? — Still travel, just don't take a taxi.
