Virginia Beach - To millions of families in America and around the world, a trip to Virginia Beach is the next best thing to being in paradise.
And little wonder. Nestled on the eastern tip of Virginia just minutes west of Norfolk and north of the North Carolina border, the idyllic locale has been ranked by Trip Advisor in the top five beaches in the U.S. as well as among Yahoo!’s top 10 highest-searched travel destinations on its site.
Every year, more than 5 million visitors respond in kind by fishing, strolling along the three-mile boardwalk promenade, exploring nearly 20,000 acres of pristine parkland, observing marine life at the Virginia Aquarium or relaxing on the sands that kiss the Atlantic — while injecting $1.13 billion into the local economy.
With such a global reputation, one would think that Virginia Beach is a strictly upper-class domain, yet nothing could be further than the truth, especially when it comes to accommodations.
More than 100 Virginia Beach hotels dot the map, most of them offering easy access to the 14 miles of shoreline that graces the area, but for visitors who have luxury in mind four establishments especially stand out.
The venerable Hilton Virginia Beach is a perennial favourite for visitors seeking an opulent experience. Located on Atlantic Avenue right on the boardwalk with an unobstructed view of the ocean, the Hilton boasts 289 guest rooms with personalized service on par with the excellence inherent in the Hilton chain. Additional features include a rooftop pool, 24-hour business facility, a fitness centre, one of the most posh restaurants in the area. Golfers also appreciate the proximity to the Princess Country Club, merely a couple blocks east.
Established in 1927, the Cavalier is publicly synonymous with the growth in popularity of Virginia Beach, blending tradition with state-of-the-art services. Located on the north side of Virginia Beach, the oceanside establishment features 282 rooms and exquisite room service. The hotel comes complete with a number of amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness centre, basketball court, obliging concierge services and a restaurant with international cuisine.
Almost every four-star hotel in Virginia Beach points out a breathtaking view of the Atlantic, but The Hampton Inn adds one special bonus to anyone who books a room facing east: a balcony to take in the panoramic experience. Situated close to the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts and the Virginia Beach Town Center, the inn’s 120 rooms offer spacious confines. Also within the inn is a year-round outdoor pool, a ining room with a complimentary Wednesday night social, business centre, health spa and fitness facility.
Entertainment is a strong drawing card for the Wydham, another oceanfront hotel that offers spectacular outdoor scenery, although its features may persuade visitors to stay indoors. Within the 244-guestroom complex, 144 of which face the ocean, folks can listen to laid-back music in one of its venues complete with a mini-bar, right by an arcade games room for the rest of the family. Room service, international cuisine and access to a private beach are among several of its amenities.
